Dragon Boat Festival

04 Apr 2009

Dragon Boat Festival at Festival Marina

The Blue Bay Dragons, Iran’s national team, capture top ranking in the Total Premier Open, while Specialist Services won the Intercontinental Corporate Cup.

The Dubai International Dragon Boat Festival took place for the second time at Festival Marina on Friday 3rd April and Saturday 4th. Over 500 participants paddled across the Creek displaying perfect technique, fitness and timing, being cheered on by thousands of spectators.

The event was organized by Dragon Boat Alive and Festival Centre, and sponsored by TOTAL Lubricants Middle East with support from the Intercontinental Dubai Festival City and Four Seasons Golf Club, in association with Island Global Yachting (IGY).

A fun day out for the whole family included a bouncy castle and face painting for the kids, a colourful fun fair, choice of food and beverage in the Igloo plus a live MC that provided a full run down of all the action on the water as it took place. The day’s activities were followed by a spectacular reception on the terraces of the Four Seasons Golf Club, allowing participants and spectators to celebrate the first day in style.

Trained by international Dragon Boat Experts, all corporate and school/university teams received training sessions ahead of the event to get everyone up to speed with a good paddling technique, making the event a successful and professional sporting event.

Race Results:

In the 500m Total Premier Mixed the Blue Bay Dragons came in first, with UAE Dragons in second and Dubai Diggers third.

The 200m Intercontinental Corporate Cup saw the Corporate Specialist Services come in first with CSHK second and Plug-ins Rocks third.
